This is the complete audio re-dub of “The Watchmakers Son” by Whitestone Pictures that I produced as part of a university post production project. It won the prize for outstanding audio post production at the 2010 UWS showcase.

The music was originally written by Aereogramme and re-arranged for the short film. All of the sound effects and dialogue were created from scratch using a selection of recording techniques. It was originally mixed in 5.1 however for web purposes it has been bounced down to stereo.

This is a quick experiment I did in the UDK to discover what audio tools were available. I completely replaced all the audio from this level apart from the character sounds like footsteps, power-ups and weapon noises.

I recorded some birdsong and water sounds in the woods with my Marantz PMD661 and Sennheiser MKH 416. I composed the music in Logic Pro. Finally I added some wood “creeking” sounds and spooky ambiences that were sourced from Logic Pro.

This is a very short piece of prototype sound design that I did for a friend that is working on a Tomb Raider style game for iOS. It should sound like a character pushing a heavy block on a stone floor that drops into place at the end.

The block was recorded by scraping a brick along a garage floor. It was then pitch shifted down and layered a few times in Logic.

The audio was recorded with my Sennheiser MKH 416 and Marantz PMD 661.

This is my final year project named “Bionic Audio”. Bionic Audio was a project that was designed to test and document a number of modern audio recording and processing techniques. The aim of this project was to take a fresh look at how recording techniques are presented to audio engineers in magazines and books. This was achieved by recording a comprehensive selection of audio examples and presenting them in a format on the web that allowed the listener to make up their own mind about which mic selection / position they preferred.

This is a film that myself and Gillian Glencross shot for a university project in 2008. I later went on to replace all of the audio with 100% original sounds which I arranged and mixed in Soundtrack Pro. The audio in the film is a combination of location foley recordings and studio recordings.

Finally this is a link to a Powerpoint that I presented at the end of the year demonstrating some of the processes I went through to finish the project.
